On May 20th, 2025, we successfully organized the 1st Joint Coordination Committee (JCC) meeting of 3DTraffic. The meeting was held in a hybrid setting (both on-site and online) in Meeting Room 1106 on the 11th floor of the Centennial Memorial Building, Faculty of Engineering, Chulalongkorn University, and was chaired by Associate Professor Dr. Witaya Wannasuphoprasit, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering of Chulalongkorn University. The meeting was also attended by the principal investigators from both Japan and Thai sides, Prof. Daisuke Fukuda and Prof. Kasem Choocharukul.
In addition to Thai and Japanese researchers from various institutions who are members of the 3DTraffic project, other participants included representatives from various Thai government agencies involved in transportation planning and traffic management in Bangkok and representatives from Japanese government agencies. This project operates under the Science and Technology Research Partnership for Sustainable Development (SATREPS) program, a joint initiative of the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
The purpose of the JCC meeting was to help all participants mutually understand the overall project plans, structure, goals, and details of the research plan for the 3DTraffic project. One of the key objectives of the 1st JCC meeting was to request cooperation from the participants, particularly in sharing traffic data for 3DTraffic research purposes. We received an overwhelmingly positive response from the representatives of the participating Thai government agencies. These included the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration’s Traffic and Transportation Department (TTD), the Office of Transport and Traffic Policy and Planning (OTP), the Department of Highways (DOH), the Expressway Authority of Thailand (EXAT), the Department of Land Transport (DLT), the Department of Rural Roads (DRR), the Department of Public Works and Town & Country Planning (DPT), the Royal Thai Police (RTP), and the Thailand International Cooperation Agency (TICA). The comments and discussions were conducted both in Thai and English, and Dr. Somporn Sahachaiseree acted as the interpreter during the event.
The meeting was concluded with the closing remarks from Mr. Shunsuke Kawahara, Senior Advisor for Transportation Infrastructure from JICA. He took the opportunity to emphasize the significance of this project, stating that the collaboration between the research team and various agencies under the 3DTraffic project will lead to stronger ties between Japan and Thailand, and that it will further promote sustainable development for Thailand.
